The Montessori Method

Dr. Maria Montessori’s (1870-1950) extensive scientific observation of the child revealed characteristics common to the young child: eagerness and love of learning for long periods without strain and a predilection for learning by doing. Dr. Maria Montessori created a prepared environment, a learning center, filled with attractive and self-correcting materials in reading, math, art, science, and sensorial and practical life. Seeing the task of the child as ordering of perceptions and the preparing of the mind for the accumulation of knowledge, Dr. Montessori designed materials that are enjoyable, attractive, and inviting to use. At the same time, these materials foster independence, train the senses, and develop continuity of effort and a passion for learning. Our school is based on this Montessori philosophy. Our goal is to prepare children for life by following their developmental needs.
“Our aim is not merely to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his inner core.”
- Maria Montessori
