Animal Friends
Respect for and an understanding of animals is an important aspect of the Montessori philosophy. Through interacting with animal life children develop a connection to nature and learn to be responsible and courteous stewards of the world. The Red Barn classroom has many pets that the children learn from and help care for on a daily basis: a bearded dragon, toads, frogs, fish, and birds. In addition, children regularly visit the chickens and pony at the neighboring farm and have visits from family pets (goats, dogs, cats, hampsters) in the classroom. On occasion the class will also entertain special visitors that bring unique animals (the snake guy) or they will embark on a field trip to see animals at other farms in the area.
